I hope that everyone is enjoying some snowy wintry weather this week! Even though summer seems a long way off, the Ridgetop Board of Directors has already started planning for the upcoming 2021 season. 2020 was a challenging year for all families and certainly provided its set of challenges as it relates to Ridgetop club operations. We feel that overall 2020 was a very successful year for the club that we can build off of for the future. We remain hopeful that by the time we reach the 2021 pool season state mandated restrictions will be at a minimum and Ridgetop families will be able to enjoy their summer at the pool to its fullest extent. If there are continued restrictions, then know that we can extend some of the best practices that we learned this past year and ensure a fun and safe environment for our members. We wanted to take a few minutes to communicate some key updates for the upcoming season.

Grounds Updates

In 2020 we made a significant investment in the Ridgetop facilities with the renovation of the bathrooms and the new pumphouse pavilion/shower area. These investments were very well received by the membership and are improvements that will serve us for years to come. In 2021 we will not be making a major capital investment but will be focused on smaller but important improvements which are needed across the grounds. These improvements include:

  • Painting of the upper pavilion
  • Painting of the clubhouse
  • Repairs to concrete walls
  • Repairs to the upper storage building
  • Deck repairs at the tennis courts

Additionally, we are excited about some improvements we have made to the grounds operations this year. We did a cost analysis on what we were spending across all of our grounds related vendors and made the decision to consolidate to one vendor who will now handle all grounds maintenance. This move we believe will save money, provide a higher quality outcome, and reduce the operational overhead of multiple vendors. Our new vendor is called Best Green Landscaping, led by Marco Diaz. You will be sure to see them up there this summer. He already has the place looking great.

Membership Updates

Full membership is vital to not only the financial health of Ridgetop but critical for us to maximize programs at the club such as swim, dive, tennis and social events.  So, again in 2021 filling the membership is our top priority and we feel confident that we can achieve that goal.  We also need your help!! Referrals are the best source of new members, so please talk up Ridgetop to your friends and neighbors, we would love to meet them.  We are also going to implement a reward for referrals, more details on that to follow.  Refer any potential new members to the Ridgetop membership chair.

Here is a basic timeline around 2021 membership activities, we are seeking to get membership counts as early as possible this year for planning purposes:

February 15 – Dues letters will be mailed
April 1 – Dues payments due

The 2021 dues amounts will be $675 for Full members and $500 for those who qualify for limited. This represents a $25 dollar increase over the 2020 dues. The reason that dues are increasing this year is due to the state mandated minimum wage increase to $9.50 per hour starting May 1st. Given the number of lifeguards and Snack bar employees that are employed at Ridgetop in the summer, this change drives a direct and significant increase in our operating cost. It would be impossible for Ridgetop to absorb this rate adjustment with an increase in revenues.

We will be continuing to look for ways to find cost efficiencies across the board to offset increase in operating cost, and to be the best stewards of the club finances that we can be.

I am excited and honored to once again have the role of the President of the Ridgetop Board of Directors in 2021. This will be my last year in the role and I will work as hard as I can to help make it another great year for Ridgetop and set us up for success in the future
